ed_okeefe2000 asked: I was at the Hard-rock casino in tampa,fl. and insteand of money coming out they just add up your total winnings and the machine send out a stupid piece of paper, and you take to any window for your cash. I heard that VAGAS, AND ATLANTIC CITY are doing the same thing,is this true.

A lot of casinos do this nowawdays. It’s to get you to keep playing. The less your winnings look like real money, the easier it is for people to keep gambling with it.
I’ve heard that in Vegas, some are doing it now. I have a co-worker who goes to Vegas every now and then and he told me his wife won $600 worth of pennies on the penny slots. Who wants to carry 60000 pennies? So for that instance, paper is the way to go. But I do understand where you are coming from. What if you don’t want to cash out but just want to move to a different game/machine? Do you really want to wait in line to get cash so you can move on? I think not.
Yup, more and more casinos are going the paper route. I think paper is cheaper than coins. Plus if you’re like me, you lose the paper. I don’t know about you but I like hearing the ca-ching from coins. Even if someone else wins, it inspires me to play knowing that someone is winning. A quiet casino just doesn’t do it for me.
Yes, most of the casinos in veags are doing this, all the ones on the strip anyway. If you go to downtown vegas though, you can find casinos that give coins. While paper can be easier to lose and doesn’t make as much noise as coins, some of the benefits are great. First, having to carry the coins is eliminated and you dont get “coin smell” on your hand. Also, when a machine is out of coins, you then have to wait for someone to come pay you.
You can use the slips of paper and insert theminto any other slot machine and in fact, most of the places have combo ATM/cash machines where you can use an ATM card or redeem those little paper slips….very quick and easy.
Just keep the papers in your wallet like you would cash, and you will be fine. Give it a try, you may like it!
Very few casinos use coins anymore. Coins are dirty, heavy and difficult to deal with. Paper print outs make the whole process simpler and easier.
I think they may use coins on larger denomination slots ($5 and up) for the novelty of it, but you’d be hard pressed to find a quarter or nickel (modern penny machines never used coins) machine that uses actual coins.
I use to love the sound of coins hitting the metal tray, but I haven’t seen a coin machine in Vegas or Atlantic City for years. Last time I was in AC the print out was bar coded so you could use it in another machine without having to cash out at the window.
It’s sure true at Foxwoods. That’s where I’m at and all winnings are printed on a slip to be brought up to the cage for cashing out.
